Participants highlighted the following as important strategies for online presence:
- Agreeing on a set timetable of activities. When certain activities will be done should be made clear, including when the facilitator is to be expected on line.
- Participation via chats and forums on a regular and preferably pre-planned sequence and time
- Establishing and using group communication channels, for instance, emails and facebook.
- Ensuring consistent engagement by participants by use of wikis, forums and chats on a regular basis, say weekly.
- A regular update on progress and new information, preferably by audio-visual recordings and/or updating the 'course news' box
